Overall Format

The topics covered in this section deal with the very nature of BDiB. We might find it useful to decide what we want from BDiB, what role will it fill in our lives? Why are we having a BDiB? We might consider drafting some sort of mission statement or motto.

Early History
- originally we had a fun day together in Brule golfing, swimming and jamming
- the format was impromptu
- scoring evolved slowly, originally based almost exclusively on the golf
- soon we started assigning points throughout the day in order to give all Boys some opportunity to earn points and to bring more significance to the rest of the day
- a cup was awarded as early as the first BDiB, usually a plastic beer cup decorated by Jony or Lisa or Dawn
- costs were split among the Boys according to financial ability.

In  2001
- a more rigid predetermined format was adopted to ensure a full day for the new members
- a set fee was asked of all members upfront to cover the days expenses (saves time, allows for volume deals, requires having cash available)
- a menu was planned and meals were produced by Lisa and Dawn
- scoring continued to make use of the tradition of democratic assignments although for the first time there was a basic scoring structure in place before the day began. Also for the first time, a written score was kept and published.

Pros and Cons
- was the Day too structured? was the Day fun or just busy? would it be possible to have a less structured Day given the number of members? did the Boys enjoy having the Day laid out for them?
- was a Day long enough?
- were the registration packages a helpful addition?
- should we continue to charge an upfront fee? perhaps if membership is increased, the fee would include meals? was $30 too much or did we give away the farm? should we set a rough fee estimate and choose our events and meals to fit within that budget?
- was the scoring fair to all? did it provide reasonable opportunity for all Boys to be competitive?
- is the democratic and impropmtu assignment of points still a good idea?
- were the prizes exciting? a suitable reward concerning the effort requierd to earn them?

For 2002
- if we are increasing membership do we need to do more planning? if membership is staying the same is there any interest in returning to a less structured Day? do you think WPCM is a good idea?
- will we stick with a Day format considering the time pressures of the summer out of which grew BDiB? overnighter, all nighter?
- how much should BDiB cost? does it make sense to go back to a pay per event sort of fee structure?
- can we, should we set the scoring structure in advance? how competitive should BDiB be?
- will we compete for an actual plastic cup decorated with sprinkles or what?
- will BDiB continue in Brule or should it like the Americas Cup, move around with the victor? Should we be in Portapique in 2002?
- could we look at sponsors? a beer company? Titleist?
- can we set a date in advance of the summer?
