Summary of Events
BDiB 2002 saw perhaps the earliest ever start, with at least two boys arriving before sunrise in order to avoid the 2- point Last To Arrive Penalty. The rest were also drawn into an early arrival by the siren call of TV sports, as BDiB happily coincided with the FIFA World Cup Final. The registration forms, itself providing oppurtunities for points, were completed on arrival and the boys provided with their registration packs including t-shirt, tees, sports drinks and bars, Calvinball Masks, and Queer Beer Tickets. The Boys weren't long in betting BDiB points on the World Cup. Immediately following the game, BDiB 2002 was officially opened with the Men's Prayer ( Thanks to Red Green)
I am a man,
But I can change...
If I have to...
I guess.
After a quick
meeting the days events began with the Beer Draw; blindfolded participants
searched for refreshment in an ice-filled cooler, and were awarded points
based on their finds. By 10:30 the Boys were outside and imbroiled in a
fierce session of Calvinball. Before today it only existed in cartoons,
now it's real! All three matches drew on the Calvin and Hobbes tradition
of wacky, intense fun, while the final match saw the seamless introduction
of beer. Overall a wonderfully successful experiment! (Calvinball

Shortly before 11 we piled into the RAM and headed for the Sunrise Beach Golf Club. A finer day of golf there never was - the sun shone all day while a gentle breeze off the strait kept the temperatures comfortable. And not a mosquito in sight! The golf section was, as always, hotly contested by some, while others took more of a Happy Gilmour approach. (Golf Photos)
Nothing like a good golf game to arouse the appetite, and so before leaving the course we put in our order for 120 wings. With great enthusiasm we headed for Big Al's and the Tavern Tourney, where we began with the First, Last, and Absolutely Never Ever Again, Not If It Is The Last Food On The Planet, Chicken Wing Eating Contest. It is hard to imagine now that we thought this was a good idea! With 20 lbs of grease in our stomachs, the pool tournament was not as fiercly contested as it might have been. Thanks to the ludricrous points wagered on the Chicken Eating Contest, the Tavern events were definitely the TSN Turning Point. Ever conscious of safety, the BDiB committee decided none were fit to drive and called home for a lift. Unfortunately Lisa had never driven a standard before but then fortunately she had five loud teachers to instruct her. Especially educational was the stop sign on an incline as you leave Big Al's. Returning from Big Al's, bloodied but not beaten, we stumbled through a rough round of croquet. Suffering in the stomach and on the scoresheet the BDiB committee was near collapse in the late afternoon, but managed to rally together to organise the 2nd annual 1/2 hour song writing contest and Bonfire. Spread out along the beach in total darkness, the boys once again produced. The quality of submissions was stunning, especially considering everyone's state of near exhaustion. The bonfire and awards presentation wrapped up another spectacular BDiB as July 1st fireworks exploded all around. (Evening Photos) (the Submissions)
